So, what is this game all about? About the gameĪRC Raiders takes players to what appears to be a post-apocalyptic world in the distant future, where the remnants of civilization must join forces against a common threat: ARC, "a mechanized and ruthless menace from space. But as usual, what matters the most is the people working there. So, we know that these developers have many years of experience developing some huge games in the past, but now that they are no longer in DICE, are they able to get the same results? It's not the same working with a well-established developer company than to go with a new, freshly starting one. Of course, these developers are not new, and they used to work for DICE in some incredible games, but the company IS new, and Embark Studios, founded by Patrick Söderlund, is releasing ARC Riders. So, even though there are countless indie developers, it's nice to see mall developers working with the big names to bring something new into the game world. For a while, some of the most popular games have come from the same familiar faces, and it's hard to break into that scene when it's so well-established.

There aren't a lot of solid details in the game's descriptive materials about exactly what you'll be doing, other than shooting machines, or how you'll be doing it. For solo efforts, you can use the snap hook, a grappling-hook gun that lets you reach otherwise unaccessible heights. It looks like there's a strong focus on teamwork, and that includes weapons like the giant howitzer cannon that requires two people. You'll have the choice of playing as a number of resistance fighters known as Raiders, including the "uprooted and abandoned" Celeste and the fashionable robot Lance. ARC Raiders is a free-to-play co-op third-person shooter set in a post-apocalyptic world where hostile machines drop from the sky, which sounds about like how Patrick Söderlund described it nearly three years ago (and a little like Defiance). Finally, we have a name, and some solid details about Embark Studios' debut effort.
